Summer Groups 2026

Summer is around the corner, register for groups now!

Powerfully You

Join our group of body investigators!  In this 6-week social group, we will focus on building connection and learning to listen to our bodies while also exploring group sensory motor play activities.  Having a good “body sense” is the foundation for self-regulation and understanding our emotions.  Each session will be focused on fun, group activities that help draw our attention to the sensations in our own bodies.  This includes tuning into what we see, smell, taste, touch and feel as well as paying attention to changes in our muscles, heart rate, breath, and temperature.  We will even learn how to do a body scan!  This group will also include one caregiver meeting via Zoom to help caregivers become familiar with the ideas that we are learning in group.

Participants should be ready to explore their own individual differences including what helps them pay attention, what sensory input makes them feel comfortable/uncomfortable, and share what they notice in their own bodies.  They should be able to participate in therapist-directed group activities as well as ready to join into sensory motor play activities in the gym.

Group ages: 10-12 year olds

Dates/times: Mondays 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

6 week session:  Monday 7/6-Monday 8/10

Group location:  Quivira Crossing (new KC:DT location at 135th and Nieman, when we move Olathe location)

Group leaders: Emily Tritz and Anna Huber

The Floor

Do you know your dinosaurs better than anyone? Can you name every Marvel movie in order? This summer, KC:DT is bringing the excitement of the hit game show The Floor to life in a two-session group experience designed for middle school and high school aged teens. Over two hours of total group time, participants will go head-to-head in knowledge battles based on their own chosen categories and areas of special interest — so the more passionate you are about your topic, the better your chances of claiming the floor. Each registered participant will need to come prepared with a category they know inside and out, and familiarity with how the game works will help you hit the ground running. Spots will be limited, so register early to claim your place on The Floor!

Participants should be able to use language to engage in the game, whether verbally or through AAC, and will need to be able to wait on their designated space on the floor while other matchups are in play. This is a fantastic chance for teens to meet new people, show off the things they know best, and discover that the stuff they're most excited about is exactly what makes them powerful players.

Group ages: Middle to high school age

Dates/times: June 3 and 10, 1-2

Group location: Ranch Mart location

Group leaders: Brookes Barrack and Luke Holmes

Bike Camp

Summer time means bike riding fun! Come join our week long bike riding group! You can expect your child to learn about bike safety and receive 1 on 1 instruction on beginner level bike skills such as balancing the bike, pedaling, steering, and braking to foster independent biking skills. Each child will be required to provide their own bike, helmet and water bottle. Please remember sunscreen and sunglasses if needed. Do not bring training wheels to camp as our goal is to ride without them.

This is an introductory course for kids who are not yet riding a bicycle independently.

Group ages: Open to all ages

Dates/times: June 1st - 5th from 8am-9am

Group location: Ranch Mart back parking lot. This group takes place on the top of the parking garage on the south side of the ranch mart building. If it should rain, we are able to ride on the first level of the parking garage. We rope off the riding area for safety.

Group leaders: Leslie Lawson and Hannah Bowers
